Who we are
HalalNook is a product of BriskNest US LLC, a Texas limited liability company (Texas SOS File No. 6000016199), doing business as HalalNook ("HalalNook", "we", "us"). BriskNest US LLC is the data controller of the personal data described here. Data is processed and stored in the United States. Contact: hassan.azhar@brisknest.us.
What this website collects
HalalNook's mobile apps are not yet released. Today, this website and the HalalNook web app (halalnook.com/app) collect only:
- HalalNook account (optional): if you create one, your name, email address, a securely hashed password (we never store the password itself), optional home city, your prayer-time settings, and the iqamah reminder choices you save. A strictly necessary sign-in cookie keeps you signed in.
- Sign in with Microsoft, Google or Apple (optional): if you choose one, that provider tells us a unique ID for your account there, your name and, when it shares it, your email address (Google and Apple also tell us whether the email is verified; with Apple you can choose "Hide My Email", and we then get a private relay address from Apple instead of your real one). We don't get your password or any access to your mailbox, contacts, files or other data. You can unlink a sign-in method or delete your account in Profile.
- Location you choose: the city or ZIP you type, or your device location if you allow it, is used to show nearby places and prayer times. It is kept on your device; city/ZIP searches are looked up through OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. When you search, we log the search words or category, the city and the area rounded to about 1 km, and how many results were found (plus your account ID if you're signed in), to improve HalalNook and find missing places.
- Usage statistics (first-party, no third parties): the app counts how it is used: app opens, screens and place pages viewed, taps on Directions/Call/Website, session length, app type (iPhone/Android app, installed web app or browser), device type (mobile/desktop), and the city you picked. We don't store your IP address for this: daily visitors are counted with a salted hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day and can't be reversed, and devices with a random ID created by the app that we keep only in hashed form. These statistics are not linked to your account and are never shared or sold.
- Contact us messages: when you use Contact us in the app, we store your topic and message, the reply email you give (optional; prefilled from your account if you are signed in), your account ID if signed in, and the app type and version. Only HalalNook admins can read them, and we use them only to answer you and fix problems.
- Waitlist: the email address you enter to be notified at launch, the time you signed up, which form you used, and your IP address (used to prevent abuse).
- Server logs: our web host keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser, pages requested and time) for security and troubleshooting.
- Matrimonial (admin preview): if you create a matrimonial profile (yourself or as a parent/guardian for your son or daughter), we store the details you enter (name, date of birth, city, deen and family details, optional photo), who created the profile, and your confirmation that you (and, if a parent, the candidate) are Muslim. Matrimonial is for Muslims only. To review a new profile we also ask for a live selfie, a government photo ID and a proof of address. Those three documents are stored privately outside the public website (folder permissions 0700 / files 0600, random filenames), are never shown to other members, and are permanently deleted as soon as the profile is approved or rejected, or after 30 days if they are not reviewed. After deletion we keep only "verified: yes/no", the date, who reviewed it and which document types were checked. To prevent duplicate and repeat profiles we also keep one-way keyed hashes (fingerprints) of: first name with date of birth, account email (normalized), wali phone number, a 64-bit visual hash of the selfie and profile photo, the ID document number if our reviewer types it in, and the network address and browser signature used to submit. The hashes are made with a secret server key, cannot be turned back into the original details, and are used only to flag possible duplicates for a person to check. They are deleted with the profile, except that fingerprints of profiles removed for breaking our Terms are kept for 1 year. A parent or guardian creating a profile confirms the candidate agreed, and we record the date of that confirmation. Matrimonial privacy requests: matrimonial@halalnook.com.
This website does not use advertising, third-party analytics or tracking cookies.
How we use it
We use your waitlist email only to tell you when HalalNook launches and about major updates before launch. We never sell your data, never share it for advertising, and never use it for credit decisions.
Sharing
We share data only with service providers that host this website and send our emails, under agreements that limit their use to providing those services, or when the law requires it.
Retention
We keep your waitlist email until you ask us to remove it or until we no longer need it for the launch, whichever comes first. We keep your HalalNook account data until you delete your account; reviews you wrote may stay, shown as "Deleted user". Raw usage events and search logs are deleted after 90 days; only daily totals (which identify no one) are kept longer. Matrimonial review documents are deleted on approve/reject or after 30 days, as described above.
Your choices
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, or leave the waitlist, by emailing hassan.azhar@brisknest.us. You can also delete your HalalNook account yourself in the web app under Profile → Delete my account. Every launch email will also include a way to unsubscribe.
Children
This website is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
The HalalNook app
When the HalalNook apps launch, they may use your location (only with your permission) to show nearby places and prayer times, and will store the reviews, ratings, photos and places you submit. We will update this policy before the apps are released.
